Fantastic Bike with some flaws

Dealing with MiBike was great. The website is easy to use and placing an order was simple. I even got a call from them, which was nice and as a bonus I received my bike earlier than advised. Putting the bike together was a breeze and I was up and riding within 30 minutes.

So I’ve had this bike for about 2 weeks and first impressions- it’s a fantastic little bike. I bought it so I can cycle to work. I live in Doncaster and work in Bayswater North - about 20 kms.

In the past I’ve attempted this commute on a normal bike and it was really tough. Anyone who knows the bike trails in this area can appreciate the hills. But it was enough to realise I could only do this commute on a regular basis with an e-bike.

First day riding: Sport mode, level 3 - used 50% battery. Charged it at work and ride home with no issues. A total of 40 kms. I must admit my fitness level is not the best and my heart rate maxed at 170 at some points of the ride.

Day 2 riding: Eco mode, level 3 - used 25% battery but I forgot my charger. I also used my bike during the day so when I started my return journey I was at about 40% and I ran out of battery about 9kms from home! Without any battery assist the bike is not fun to ride but as it is a folding bike with a removable battery, I just got off onto a road called an Uber and folded it neatly into the trunk! Painless and I was so happy that I chose a folding bike.

Also worth noting, on the steepest parts of the hills, on the Eastlink trail around Mullum Mullum Reserve, there was little to no assist. I am 82kgs and I was carrying a 6kg back pack so that would also be a factor.

Overall thoughts: if you are looking for a really comfortable ride with a good deal of assist over hilly terrain then this is not the bike for you, it just does not have enough power and the torque sensor means you are getting a workout. So if you want to feel like you have exercised then it’s worth considering.

Also I’m not convinced by the 100 kms range claim.

Having said that I have no regrets, build quality is excellent and I’m thoroughly enjoying riding it but the instructions on how to use the LCD display could be much better. Also it would be great if the app can include things like cadence and power.
