The Urban Plus bike helmet from Fischer has been around for some time now. This has been continually developed further. A copy of the latest generation reached us and we checked it in everyday life.
By Christoph Wisberg
The Urban Plus was delivered in a standard box. The model is offered in two sizes: S/M (head circumference 52 to 59 cm) and L/XL (head circumference 58 to 61 cm). The helmet shell is made of polycarbonate and the inner shell is made of EPS. Fischer has woven reflective strips into the helmet straps, which provide additional visibility in the dark. There are also reflective stickers on the helmet shell. The most striking feature is the large LED rear light which is placed on the back of the helmet and offers different light modes.
With just a few simple steps you can find the right setting for your head. The correct size is adjusted using a helmet strap with a ratchet fastener. In practice, this works simply and perfectly. Thanks to the so-called “inner ring system” it works quite quickly. This system is internal and allows the wearer to adapt well to the shape of the head. The helmet is also equipped with foam pads on the inside, which can be removed and washed. The numerous large air inlets in the helmet shell are pleasant on warm days.
Now design is always a matter of taste and is entirely in the eye of the beholder. At this point we will therefore rely on our own taste. We only know a few bicycle helmets that we would describe as successful in terms of design. Especially in the extensive range of city bike helmets, i.e. helmets for every day, there are sometimes incredibly few tasteful creations. The Urban Plus, on the other hand, has an inconspicuous design and does not appear intrusive or bulky on the head. OK - a bike helmet is primarily intended to protect the wearer from head injuries - so appearance is of secondary importance.
The Urban Plus from Fischer is offered in various colors and designs. The RRP is 59.99 euros. We have been using it everyday for a few weeks now. It is uncomplicated and does what it is supposed to do: protect the wearer from head injuries. Compared to similar products from other manufacturers, the price is in the lower midfield. For these reasons too, we give the Fischer Urban Plus a buying tip.
